Cleaning Basics from Fine to Cheap Fashion Jewelry

I just think Spring is studded with great adornments, from fine to cheap fashion jewelry. I believe the weather helped many women to show off their pieces confidently. One a fashionista friend of mine, Phoebe, sent me some photos of hers wearing those big and bold necklaces, and they were fabulous, I think. As a great friend of hers, I asked her how she has able to store her pieces of retail fashion jewelry without damaging.

She responded with an essay-length message. And, I think I have to spread the special jewelry cleaning tips of hers to you gals.

Cleaning is vital
Before storing your beloved pieces, cleaning them is always a prerequisite. When cleaning, do away with hard and strong soap. Some pieces, especially, cheap costume jewelry can be easily damaged when soaked in water with strong solutions. One great way to clean any fashion jewelry is to use a mild , non-detergent soap soaked in hot water. But do not soak them over night. An hour or two is enough. Use toothbrush or make up brush and a clean white cloth to remove dirt from the pieces.

Know the difference between hard and soft gemstones
Phoebe explains that it is important to know the kind of jewelry you are dealing with. Not all jewelry can be cleaned the same way. Soft stones need gentler care. Phoebe added that when it comes to cleaning the types of jewelry, there are hard and soft stones.

Hard gemstones include diamonds, sapphires and rubies. If they are really dirty, you can soak them overnight.

On the other hand, opals, turquoise, pearls and corals belong to soft gemstones. Use mild-soap, non-detergent soap and use soft brush to remove the dirt.

Great storage practices
Phoebe revealed that many people think that cleaning is the only prerequisite to storing. But that is not the only one. She says that “after cleaning your pieces of jewelry, carefully drying the pieces is also significant.” So, always remember to dry your pieces thoroughly after washing them. Otherwise, the water with soap will deteriorate your jewelry.

You can use a pouch or a bag when storing your pieces. The important thing to take note is the organization. Women tend to mix all pieces together when storing, which only result to tangling and scratching. Take note also of pearls and opals because they need air circulation so they will not crack.

So, that's basically it. Remember the tips above and keep it up, wearing those fabulous jewelry of yours. It doesn't matter whether you have fine or cheap fashion jewelry.
